Men’s Sheds are a vital community investment delivering programmes and activities that foster community spirit, connect communities
and contribute to building a more inclusive Australia. Most ‘shedders’ see themselves as having a strong sense of belonging and ownership
of their Shed, share fellowship, camaraderie and devote most of their time to worthwhile community projects. Men’s Sheds not only play
important roles in the overall improvement of health and wellbeing but also positively engaging within their community for the benefit of
their community.
Work bench for Children's Centre :- The Crows Nest Children's Centre requested that we make a workbench for the kids to play
around on, just like the one in our Shed. This is the end result, minus the tools or course.

Ambulance Station Seat:- The Shed was asked to design and build a seat for the
outside of the local Ambulance Station. People attending the Station need somewhere to sit if it is temporarily unattended.
This is the end result of our labours, and very smart it looks, too!.

Insulator Display:- Insulators are an essential part of any electrical,
telephone system. They stop the flow of electrical charges to areas they are not wanted. Insulators have been in use
since signals and electricity have been transmitted by wire. This display is of different types of insulators used over many
years. This display will be on show at the Crows Nest Historical Museum.

Possum Box:- Possums, love them or hate them, they are a very common
sight in Australia. There is in fact, 23 different species of possum in Australia but the ones most likely to invade
your roof space is either the Common Brushtail Possum or the Common Ringtail Possum. The last place you want them is in
your roof. The Shed has made its first possum box, and it turned out rather well. This box was made for a trainee Wildlife
Carer to provide living space for possums being rehabilitated.

Lectern:- Recently, The Shed was asked to make Lecterns for
the Crows Nest Q.C.W.A. and also for Merge, in Toowoomba. Merge is a not for profit organisation dealing with
youth. A great deal of time was spent on each of the lecterns and the result was very pleasing. Both lecterns
have that rustic natural look, and were both well received.

Q.C.W.A. :- The Shed constructed a table trolley to enable the ladies at the QCWA to store
and move their tables around instead of having to carry them. We also adapted a hand trolley so that stacks of chairs could be moved
more easily.

Assisting on Sheep Station :- Several Men’s Shed members travelled 12 hours and 1067 kms
to Gundoo Station (west of Blackall) to help station owner Paul Moody. “Paul runs about 9000 sheep on his property
and is part of a consortium of four property owners fencing a complete area against dogs, thereby making all their properties
eventually ‘dog proof’. Paul estimates he alone loses around 500-600 lambs a year through dog attack, so there is a real need
for the fence. It will also limit the number of kangaroos able to enter the property and eat valuable feed, and limit the passage of pigs that also kill the lambs.
We worked for five days and helped erect 6.2 km of fencing and Paul estimates that we saved him weeks of further
laborious work. The fence still has a few gullies that need extra low parts added, but it is in effect now working.
As the fenced area was about 14ks from the homestead, we stayed out all day, had smoko and lunch beside the fence
with a small fire to boil the billy, home back about 5’ish, 12 hour days!! We were exhausted at days end but feeling
good, and boy, did we sleep well.
Paul was a fantastic "boss", taking us to the Yaraka pub for Saturday night roast dinner, which we both loved, and
generally feeding and housing us well the whole time. He has invited us back in about April, (not to do fencing we hope)
when it’s cooler and the flies are basically gone for the winter, mainly to do sheep work, mustering, grading etc.
We will go.
We felt like we had really done something to help and we were greatly appreciated, and it was a magnificent experience
for Devlin.”
