Myna Bird Trap:- The common myna (also called Indian myna) is an
introduced bird species that is now well established in many cities and towns in Eastern Australia. There is
concern that common mynas have a negative impact on native birds through competition for food, nesting sites
and territories and because of this concern, community groups and local councils conduct myna trapping and
killing programs.
Common mynas pose a human health risk as they carry bird mites such as Ornithonyssus bursa and Dermanyssus
gallinae that may infect humans. They can also cause dermatitis, asthma, severe irritation and rashes. Their
droppings can spread Psittacosis, Ornithosis, Salmonellosis and arboviruses. They may also carry owl flies,
biting lice, Oxyspirrura thread worm and round worm. Mynas are known to carry avian malaria.
They are an extremely invasive species and these traps have proven effective in capturing them. Captured
birds should be euthanased and disposed of.

Boot Jack:- A boot jack, sometimes known as a boot pull, is a small
tool that aids in the removal of boots. It consists of a U-shaped mouth that grips the heel of the boot,
and a flat area to which weight can be applied. To operate it, the user places the heel of the boot in the
mouth of the jack, stands on the back of the device with the other foot, and pulls his foot free of the
front boot. The process is then repeated to remove the other boot.
The boot jack has several advantages over the removal of boots by hand. By allowing the wearer to pull
his foot straight up and out of the boot, and by using his full body weight to hold the boot in place, far
greater leverage and a much more secure grip are possible than can be achieved with the hands. In addition,
the wearer is spared the inconvenience of having to bend over or sit down to remove the boots, or directly
handle them if they are dirty.

Native Bee Boxes:- Australia has around 12 species of native bees that live
in hives and which do not sting! They are small (about 3-5 mm in length), compact, dark-coloured bees.
Stingless bees are mainly found in the northern and eastern areas of Australia.
Each nest has a queen, drones and thousands of workers. These bees produce sugarbag honey, a highly prized
food of Aborigines who gathered it from wild nests. Each hive produces only small amounts of sugarbag, less
than 1 kg per year and so it is a special product, to be savoured and relished. Stingless bee nests are made
of wax and resin and are built in hollow tree trunks, branches, fallen logs and rock crevices. Unlike honeybees,
the cells used to rear the larvae, the brood comb, are separated from larger ‘pots’ that are used to store the
honey and pollen. Some species of stingless bees are very similar. Often the most reliable way to tell them apart
is the structure of the nests, particularly the shape of the brood comb.
The common stingless bee in south-eastern Queensland is Trigona carbonaria. It is black with whitish hairs
on the side of the thorax. The brood comb of this species is a characteristic horizontal spiral. Trigona
carbonaria can be domesticated in artificial hives such as wooden boxes. It is found in coastal areas of
eastern Australia from the Atherton Tablelands in Queensland to Bega in New South Wales.

Squatters Chair :- The squatters chair is an iconic item of Queensland
furniture and was already used to evoke Queensland rural life as early as 1914. These chairs have graced
Queensland verandas for well over 100 years. The design incorporates an extension of the arm rests so the legs
can be supported in a relaxed attitude without the need for additional furniture. The design of this peculiarly
Queensland article of furniture has been attributed to Charles Archer, one of seven brothers who came to
Queensland in the 1830s and 1840s.
